Atex cutting tools

EGA MASTER Safety Tools Introduction EGA Master presents the unique range of fully ATEX certified Cutting and Grinding tools for all explosion risk environments. These tools offer spark free, non-electrical solutions which can be used in Zone 1 and 2 areas without the need for a hot-work permit, which usually means completely stopping production, with all the costs involved on doing so. EGA Master Safety Tools offers Cutting and Grinding Equipment which will revolutionise pipework and structural steelwork installation and maintenance in hazardous areas. They are certified under the following ATEX designations:
This allows the tools to be used in explosive Gas, Dust and Mining environments in Zones 1,2, 21, 22 and M2. The maximum recorded surface temperature in the rigorous testing was under 160ºC, while the particles generated while working will never have enough temperature or energy to produce ignition (particles do not exceed 70ºC in any case).

EGA Master offers approved products and services that can potentially meet all Upstream and Downstream hot work requirements with the security that all products are fully certified and tested in moderated environments before release/production.

The many advantages can be summarised as follows:

  •  No sparks
  •  Noise level just above first action level for hearing protection
  •  Cold grinding producing not more than 60/70°C on normal grinding of steel
  •  Roughness profile from 40 – 75 microns after grinding, allowing recoating without any further surface preparation
  •  No dust during grinding
  •  Low vibration levels (less than 2.5m/s2)
  • Great cost reductions by avoiding expensive production stops

Safety and costs aspects

Due to the low temperature levels of the grinding operation, there is no need for a Hot Work Permit on offshore platforms, thus eliminating any shut down costs incurred as well as removing the requirement for a fire-watcher. All of which makes the investment worthy by the first time they are needed to be used.

The noise level is less than 83 dB(A) compared to a normal level of 120 or 125 dB(A), even grinding stainless steel or other hard metals. The equipment is light and easy to use. The same equipment can be used on wood, rubber, painted surfaces, and for removing fire proofing materials such as Chartek and Fendolite.

  • Low Noise : Between 76 and 83 dbA
  • Low Vibration : Around 6-8 hours use per day
  • Low Dust : Particles are dense and settle around the work piece
  • Low Temperature : No gases are released from paints or other coating

Materials for which these tools are designed:

  • mild steel
  • stainless steel
  • fire protecting coated steel or iron pipes (Fendolite or Chartek)
  • iron
  • aluminium
  • rusted or painted steel
Sectors:

  • Mining
  • Oil & Gas extraction
  • Refineries
  • Oil and gas pipelines
  • Ship maintenance (shipyards, docs)
  • Chemical industry
  • Silos
